Though many of the people were not home, doing the canvassing was nice. I think that the people that did get our information did want it and it might have even helped them choose who they wanted to vote for. To me, this was just another way to get out and help people vote.

Doing the phone banking was cool! Not many people get to say that they helped get out the vote. When I was on the phone a lot of people did not think I was a kid, but when they found out, they were happy to know that even the children were getting involved in the election.

THEY’RE CALLING ME BACK!!! Just yesterday and Saturday I realized people were calling me back, but I am so glad none of my friends have the first three digit as everybody else had. Even though I did not have the paper in front of me I still knew to encourage them to go out and vote either early or on election day. Vote 2008!!!!

I was very excited to do the canvassing project. I hope that after I leave everyone house that they think about how a youth that isn’t old enough to vote is still interested in others voting and it encourage them to vote, atlease if they haven’t already. I would encourage others to participate in phone banking and canvassing because it’s really fun. To me it’s really important for youth to get trained and go canvassing because it’s a fun and learning process not only to get people to go vote but so they will also get ready to vote so when their time come they will know exactly what to do and what to expect.

With phone banking it was really fun, but the thing I hope to accomplish in this voter engagment peoject is for everyone I talked to, to go out and vote. I would also encorage other youth to go encorage others to vote because it’s good to get involved while your young, so u would know when you get to that voting age. When I called people they thought I was just another women trying to get people to go out and vote but when I said I was a youth trying to get people to vote they was really suprised. For other youth that want to get involved or is involved, there really isn’t nothing to it, it’s really fun and once you get people good input it makes you feel really good inside.

My phone banking experience had lots of ups and downs. The good things were that I got to talk to nice people that really cared about change and voting. There were others that hung up and were rude. Lots of people were not home that I wished I could talk to since I felt that reaching them could make a difference. Some people still don’t know anything about voting.

My advice to other young people phone banking is to keep your head up because the hard work does pay off. Reaching out can really help people to access their right to vote.

I want the impact of my effort to increase the number of voters and they can make more informed decisions as voters.

Young people need to be involved in this because so many adults don’t have the time to care until a young person points out the importance of voting. Young people can help adults know what is going on and that we are not all about having fun. Our issues locally and other parts of the world need to be addressed. I can help them get addressed with my efforts.

What I liked about canvassing was that I was able to get out the word about voting and people’s voting rights. I gave them information about the voting locations and distributed a non-partisan voter’s guide. I feel that I put lots of effort into this and that it will pay off in the end. I got out to make a difference. By giving people this valuable information that would help them make good choices, I hope that the people that I talked to will vote. We need improvement in the city and good leadership. Voting helps us get that. I hope that the efforts I put in would not just help the city but the world and make us as a lot stronger and wiser. Young people should get involved with these kinds of things because it would express and show our character. If we care about issues, we should get others to vote so that their vote counts. If you don’t vote, then your voice cannot be heard. My message to youth or adults is that your voice and your efforts for change count.

What I like most about canvassing was that it was a real good learning experiencing for me. What I also like was that I was able to get involved like I did and encouraging other people to vote and share some of their issues.

I feel great about my efforts because someone has to do it and I’m glad that I’m doing it. I hope voters would vote for the person they want to win and have a good reason for choosing them.

The impact I want to make on voters is that every vote counts. Elections can be close so they need to vote before it’s too late.

The reason that this is important to me is because when I grow up it will encourage me to vote. The reason that think other youth like me should get involved is because they will learn how to vote so they won’t have to depend on their parents. They could be able to encourage others do the same.

Phone banking proved to be an excellent way of reminding people to exercise the right to vote. Voters were pleased to hear that even youth were getting involved in the election, and most were eager to be polled.
“It’s nice to see young man working to change the world,” an elderly man said to me. He told me that he was eager to vote when he turned 18. He later lost interest in politics and in voting. “I feel like every vote counts this year, and I appreciate you for reminding people of that.”
I now, look back on the time spent calling sometimes hostile voters and the time spent calling only to be deferred to voicemail. Listening to people tell stories of their first times voting and how this election will change lives makes it all worth it. I contributed to this election. I made a difference.
