The very first preventing underage drinking module was rolled out to Students Preventing and Informing on Drugs and Alcohol (SPIDA) youth in Charlotte, N.C. on Sept. 20, 2008. At the time, Michael Eisen, director of the NC Preventing Underage Drinking Initiative, had a vision of incorporating the Youth Empowerment Model in the 16 collaboratives underneath NC PUD.
Eisen worked to have YES! deliver initial trainings to the SPIDA youth. This initial training as well as visits from Executive Director Bronwyn Lucas laid the groundwork for the first contract between NC PUD and YES!.
Since June 2009, The Answer youth staff has become the premier source for ongoing training and technical assistance to NC PUD communities and other preventing underage drinking groups in North Carolina.
